Mon. July 11—Special Session hosted by the NMEA Ocean Decade Working Group

NMEA, Ocean Literacy, and the Ocean Decade

Time: 0830-1130 EDT

Ocean Literacy was developed through a grassroots, community-wide consensus-building process that established agreement among hundreds of scientists, educators, and policy makers about what every person should understand about the ocean. NMEA members were, and continue to be, leaders in this now global effort. Recently the United Nations declared 2021-2030 the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Join us and see how NMEA remains committed to fostering Ocean Literacy. It does not matter if you've been involved since the beginning or are just learning about Ocean Literacy. Simply bring your enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to contribute to NMEA's involvement in Ocean Literacy and Ocean Decade activities.

Open to NMEA members. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required. A light breakfast will be served.

After a day exploring Long Island’s natural beauty, enjoy an evening on the water aboard the Sapphire Princess, a modern luxury yacht based in Freeport. The vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation systems, two full-service bathrooms, a curved staircase leading to the second level, DJ booth, large dance floor, and two large outside areas with bistro tables and seating. The vessel offers unmatched panoramic bay views from any location on each level. You’ll enjoy passed appetizers, a hot buffet dinner and a cash bar before hitting the dance floor or taking in the sunset from a deck chair.
