NMEA Statement of Support
To the NMEA Community,
Our organization is built on core values of excellence, camaraderie, action, inclusiveness, and leadership. We stand in support with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), and condemn the injustices and systemic racism that the Black community continues to experience.
We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within our organization and the marine education community at large. This includes advancing BIPOC educators in positions of leadership and providing opportunities for new educators to become part of our community through our Expanding Audiences and Traditional Knowledge scholarships. As an organization, we are also reaching out to global voices and perspectives through partnerships with IPMEN, AMEA, CANOE, EMSEA, and Relato Océano.
Our community is stronger when it is truly diverse, equitable, and inclusive. We recognize that we must take more actions on social justice issues while amplifying the voices of BIPOC marine educators. We are committed to continuing and strengthening this work. We encourage our members to take the time and space to listen, learn, and do the work individually, while leadership continues to expand this work at an organizational level.
Thank you for your continued support. We are stronger together. Black lives matter.
Sincerely,
NMEA Executive Committee
