January featured student mentor—Sean den Bok
Our January featured student mentor is Sean den Bok, School and Public Programs Manager at the Seattle Aquarium. Sean manages the teams that provide equitable access to lifelong learning opportunities for students, teachers and families before, during and after school. He has worked in the field for the past 16 years.
When asked what he loves most about his job, Sean says,
“Connecting with nature. Sharing my passion for conservation education with others. Having the privilege to show other people of color in my community the various opportunities that lie within conservation. Being able to live vicariously through others’ 'AHA!' moments.”
Sean holds a B.S. in Biology with a minor in chemistry from Westmont College. He selected Westmont because of its beautiful location, academic culture, and because it is faith based. Sean attributes his career-readiness to more than just college. Sean also has completed training from:

Sean’s advice to his younger self includes,
“Be bold, take risks. You only get so many opportunities in life, so take advantage. Go big, be prepared to fail, and learn from your mistakes. This is your journey, enjoy the ride. Don't let fear, or any other barriers, keep you from pursuing your passions. Plan your work, and work your plan. YOU GOT THIS!!!!”
