Introducing our new Current editor, Claire Atkinson
Claire Atkinson
Editor of Current: the Journal of Marine Education &
Senior Manager of Communications
Aquarium of the Pacific
Long Beach, California
While Claire just joined NMEA as editor of Current in December, her day job is senior manager of communications at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. She’s been at the Aquarium for nine years now, and her main role there is writing and editing the member magazine, Pacific Currents! She also does writing for the website, press releases, the annual report, and basically anything that needs words.
“People always ask me if I studied marine biology in college. I didn't—I majored in art history and minored in film studies! But I always follow that up with how my degree really prepared me for a career in writing.”
She has learned a lot about the ocean in her time at the Aquarium, but she is looking forward to learning more about marine education and the work done by NMEA members.
